Introduction

Making visible the contents of some of the hundreds of meal menus and daily programme images to be found on the Timeline, which of course are images of text, is an accessibility issue that I have long wished to address. As it isn't feasible to transcribe every single one of these images, I have chosen and will continue to pick out representative selections for full-text transcription.

The same applies to Passenger Lists, although transcribing these adds a bonus, because the names can be indexed and searched for from the resulting text.

Daily programme Transcripts

As with the meal menus, I'm intending to select programmes from each class on transatlantic crossings and cruise programmes relating to different periods in Caronia's career.

Daily programmes Transcribed

A Hidden Gem. The 06 February 1955 transcript above carries one of the regular “teasers” posted into Daily programmes. If trying to solve it drives you wild, an answer is at the bottom of that page.

Many pages of the Virtual Summer Mediterranean Cruise carry selected extracts from the Daily programmes, often with extra annotations. These will be found with a lead-in line of “Highlights of the day…”
