In this case, I would urge you to only enter a person's last-name into the search box. The reason being that the same person could be listed in several different ways, for example, with their initials before or after their name, their full name or even their nickname.

If you are certain that a crew member was on a particular voyage, then it's possible that the spelling of their name was either incorrectly entered in the lists, or there has been an error in the transcription. If either is the case I'd welcome advice of the correction needed, obviously with some supporting evidence. Thanks.

Incorrect Name Spelling

On several pages there are known mis-spellings of crew names. However, where these have occurred on printed matter, no attempt has been made to correct the spelling on the transcript. This allows visitors to find the documents, usually programmes, and at least confirm that person's involvement with Caronia.

From that point, it may need separate searches with alternative forms of spelling to find that person in a crew list. I would recommend starting with single-word searches.

Crew Lists Appeal

For many years it was a mystery as to where the Crew Manifests post June 1957 might be, with a possbility that they were lost. However, I have recently learned that Caronia's lists are kept within the “Celebrated Ships” collections at the National Archive at Kew.

At the time of writing, I'm exploring the possibilities around purchasing scans for the 36 remaining voyages in order to complete the picture. It means raising nearly £6,000 (GBP) over the next 11 months. Crew Lists Appeal - Can you help?

Notes Regarding Crew Transcripts

The links above represent all the Crew List transcripts that I have had access to.

As each new transcript is added, there are often minor changes made to previous lists. This is because not all the original list images are of good reading quality. Inevitably, there will be errors in these lists, either in the originals, or in the transcriptions.

Until Transat #62 the official lists were typed with full names, prepared by the Pursers, for presentation to U.S. Immigration officials. Beyond that time the official sources do not carry any source of full names, only hand-written lists with just family name and initial(s).

If any error is found, particularly with the spelling of someone's name, do please advise me of these. Where possible, please also provide some documentary evidence, thanks.
