SOUTHAMPTON LANDING ARRANGEMENTS
ARRIVAL
Weather and other circumstances permitting, the ship is expected to dock at Southampton at approximately
6.30 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 1958.
SPECIAL TRAIN FOR LONDON
A special train for London will be run, leaving Southampton Docks at 7.53 p.m. and is due in London (Waterloo)
at 9.36 p.m, on Thurs., September 18, 1958.
IMMIGRATION AND PASSPORT INSPECTION
It is anticipated that passport inspection and stamping of Landing Cards will take place on arrival, in
the Main Lounge. The white cards (I.B.28) should be completed before arrival and presented together with
blue cards. British and Canadian passengers require only red cards.
CUSTOMS
Customs examination will take place on the pier, where all baggage will be found grouped alphabetically.
The declaration is verbal, and a list of prohibited articles, etc, is posted on -"M" Deck. Further information
can be obtained from the Baggage Master.
DINNER
For those passengers disembarking on Thursday evening, an early Dinner will be served from 5.30 p.m.
MAIL
Passengers are requested to make inquiries at the Purser's Office shortly before the ship docks, and also
at the Mail Desk on the dock after disembarking.
DISEMBARKATION
will commence at 7.00 p.m. on Thursday evening and 7.45 a.m. on Friday morning. For their own comfort,
passengers are advised not to congregate on the stairways, etc., but to remain in the Public Rooms or
Upper Decks until the signal for disembarkation is given.
BAGGAGE
All stateroom baggage, with the exception of an overnight case, should be packed and ready for removal
from staterooms by 4.00 p.m., Thursday, September 18, 1958. Passengers should ensure that their baggage
is correctly labelled with initial labels. Initial labels can be obtained from bedroom stewards, who will
assist passengers in affixing them to all baggage.
Passengers are asked to take only hand baggage, small parcels. etc., in the Pullman coaches and compartments
on the special train; all heavy baggage will be loaded in the luggage vans. Passengers travelling by the
special train who do not wish to take all their baggage with them, can, by arrangement with the British
Railways, despatch as " Checked Baggage " to addresses in the Central London area at a charge of 7s. per
package.
Baggage will be accepted for forwarding to addresses in other parts of London or other destinations in
Great Britain as "Passengers’ Unaccompanied Luggage" at a rate of 5s. 6d. per package. Passengers not
travelling by rail may despatch baggage or other merchandise at the ordinary general parcels rates, through
British Railways on the pier.
Passengers are responsible for seeing ail their baggage through Customs.
MIDLAND BANK
Passengers are advised to conduct their banking transactions between 2.30 and 4.30 p.m. Thursday as the
Midland Bank will not be open whilst the ship is in the harbour or Southampton Docks.
TELEPHONES
Ship-to-Shore telephones, situated on either side of Main-Deck Square forward, and starboard side, "A"
Deck aft, will be connected soon after arrival for use of passengers.
Passengers are advised that there is no restriction on the amount of Sterling currency that may be taken
ashore, but it is still only permissible to take out £10 Sterling.
The arrangements for disembarkation, as set out herein, are made with the convenience of passengers as the
main consideration, and the co-operation of all in giving effect thereto will make for a comfortable and
expeditious landing
