The Cruise Ship Extraordinary - RMS Caronia
In the Great African Cruise book for 1950 the Caronia was described as…
The world's largest postwar liner, the Caronia, was especially constructed to combine the better features of the ideal Cruise Ship and the transatlantic liner. Her pale green hull is a delightful innovation in ocean travel, particularly suited to cruising in the tropics. Her every appointment spells unprecedented luxury in any climate.

Writing Room
The Caronia is a modern ship. Whether leaving New York in January or entering a sunny tropical port, the Caronia is continually air-conditioned to withstand the vicissitudes of winter, or dispel the torrid heat of the tropical sun.
Every public room and every stateroom represents the latest advances in ship-board splendour and comfort. In her, the traveller finds a composite of charm and intimacy usually associated only with private yachts; a grace and luxury that are delightful complements to the World Cruise.
The staterooms are done with a perfection of detail, toward achieving a maximum of comfort. They are completely modern rooms, most of them outside with either bath or shower, and they have, of course, louvre ventilation, private telephones and every appointment that distinguishes a fine hotel, or a luxurious home.
as depicted in many of the American Express Cruise books. This image was also used in several Cunard brochures, but reversed. This is the correct view aft of the port side.
Unequalled Sophistication
On either side of the ship, Garden Lounges spread along the Promenade Deck with large framed windows overlooking the sea. Between these lounges is the Caronia's comfortable theatre, fully equipped for the pleasant presentation of the best in motion pictures.
Like the Garden Lounges, the Card Room and the Writing Rooms overlook the sea, and feature subtle decor, suitably quiet and restful. The Main Lounge and the Smoking Room are tastefully appointed to achieve ideal surroundings for either relaxation or conversation. Here, the rugs and upholstery are soft-hued, easy chairs large and deep, and the walls panelled in warmly toned veneer.
While in every public room of the Caronia passengers may order cocktails or refreshments, the spacious, charming Cocktail Lounge will prove a popular meeting place. Again, the accent is on subtlety, with unobtrusive decor and appointments. However, the dramatic design of the room with its raised balcony enclosed within a balustrade of light silver metal and the broad sweep of the bar itself, represents a degree of shipboard sophistication seldom equalled.
Faultless Cuisine
Drinks to your taste and specification are mixed and served by stewards whose efficiency and personability testify to Cunard's reputation for impeccable service.
And, when it comes to food, the ultimate in good eating is enjoyed in either of the Caronia's restaurants, the Balmoral or the Sandringham. Good food is a tradition with Cunard White Star, and the new Caronia is proud to offer cuisine of all nations faultlessly prepared by master chefs.

Menus are balanced, yet offer a remarkable selection of taste tempting dishes to delight the most fastidious gourmet. And private diets are gladly catered to. In all, the Balmoral and the Sandringham adhere to a standard of excellence on a par, at least, with the finest internationally famous restaurants ashore.
Like all other features of the ship, the Caronia's sports facilities are outstanding. In addition to deck space allotted to shuffleboard and deck tennis, there are also a large outdoor swimming pool, and a gymnasium, fitted with every kind of health and body-building equipment, including medicinal and curative baths.
Seamless Service
And, then there is Cunard service, service that has become a keynote of distinction with Cunard White Star. Over a hundred and nine years of leadership in transoceanic travel have given the ships and personnel of the Cunard fleet a reputation for dependability and efficiency that is unsurpassed.
A kind of pride typifies the Cunard worker, pride in a job well done, pride, and over a century of experience, that assures the Cunard traveller of the best service, the greatest enjoyment of his voyage or cruise.
