The Caronia's Boxers contd…

The photographs on this page and the next have been submitted by Jim Caslake. This has allowed more pages to the Caronia Boxers section. This part features matches of the 1960s. Quite a number of people remain to be identified within these photographs.

In the group above, seen on the starboard side aft crew deck, Jim Caslake is front centre and Kenny Douglas is beside the punch-bag with Dave Aston centre of back row.

Eric Downer from Portsmouth writes
Second from the right in the back row is Ron Miles, a former ABA boxer, who was Engine Room crew with me for two years. Ron, from Horley near Gatwick Airport, passed away last year. Life and soul of the Pig and Whistle, he would break into singing Opera songs, insisting that everyone should shut up while he sang!

He trained for the boxing Tournament on Tennents Lager, and laid out his Aussie opponent with his first punch, then went back to the Bar. I tracked him down after 52 years but he was already ill. A great guy.

Tommy Wilson, Kevin Moore, Jim Caslake, Gus Arcon, John Wigglesworth & Ken Douglas.

Kevin Moore writes
I was a member of the Caronia boxing team that fought at Brabourne Stadium, Bombay 1963 against the Bombay Iron Club Boxers and Tommy Wilson and I were the only Caronia winners on the night, both of us stopping our opponents
