The American Express Cruise Staff
By this time in Caronia's career, the cruise staff on board were almost exclusively provided by American Express. Hitherto, the entertainment of the passengers whilst the “Green Goddess” was at sea, and the organisation of shore excursions, was shared with Thos. Cook & Son.
I'm indebted to Bill Wolter, who has provided several photographs…
Bill Wolter writes…
I am still and was a great fan of the Caronia, having sailed on four cruises during 1961, 1962
and 1963. At that time I worked for the American Express Company (Cruise Division). I also worked
directly for Swedish American Line for two years.
When working for American Express, we didn't have much choice as to what trips we would be assigned to. However Cunard used Amexco almost exclusively while Norwegian America Line hired only Thomas Cook teams.

The cruise staff, apart from the Cruise Director, dined at the forward end of the Sandringham Restaurant, so this view shows the eight-seater table on the port side.
