Ship's Time
As the Caronia criss-crossed the Atlantic, so the ship's time needed to be adjusted accordingly. It appears that in
the early years the method of clock changes was to adjust them by 20 minutes, 3 times a day. This would occur at 2am,
5pm and 10pm.
How long this was perpetuated is not known at this point. Eventually, clock adjustments would be in half-hourly, or
hourly, intervals. If clocks were advanced, the change would be at Midnight, if retarded, it was timed for 1am.
In later years, clocks were stopped rather than retarded.
