Passenger Access Deckplans
The Caronia had 9 passenger accessible decks.
Starting at the top, they were…
- Sports Deck - above the deck with the lifeboats, aperture in the plan is for ship's funnel
- Sun Deck - just visible between the lifeboats
- Promenade Deck- with an almost continuous row of vertical apertures
- Main Deck - just forward of the funnel, the 3 pairs of darker portholes are the very best suites, with ship to shore access forward of these. This would be a passenger's first entry point into the ship
- A Deck - This is the lowest deck in the lighter colour panel
- Restaurant Deck- The blank shown on the plan between the two restaurants is where the galley and pantries were. A crew gangway would be attached to the ship just forward of the Sandringham Restaurant in most ports. The laundry was situated at aft end on this deck
- B Deck - Not much passenger accommodation - this housed the ship's working alleyway with access to the frozen, cold and fruit + veg stores. Crew accommodation forward
- C Deck - Mostly crew accommodation, messing facilities etc. Access hatches with a ladder would be used from this deck for passengers and crew to go ashore in Caronia's tenders when anchored off-shore
- D Deck - Gymnasium, treatment rooms, more stores, engine room, crew quarters forward
